🚨 Updated information for non-EU certificates valid for super green pass

The Italian government has updated its FAQ page for the green pass/super green pass (certificato verde) and now answers a question specifically about what non-EU vaccination and recovery certificates are considered super green pass equivalents in Italy.

It specifically states that vaccination and recovery certificates from the following countries are recognized by the Italian health ministry as valid super green pass equivalents:

  • Canada
  • Japan
  • Israel
  • United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland (including Gibraltar, the Isle of Man, the Channel Islands and British bases on the island of Cyprus and excluding territories outside the European continent)
  • United States

The government has stated that in the case of recovery certificates, they must be accompanied by a sworn translation. Vaccination certificates can be in Italian, English, French or Spanish.

Please note: what is referred to in Italy as the "green pass/super green pass" is actually officially known as the EU Digital Covid Certificate. There are many non-EU countries that have joined the EU Digital Covid Certificate program and therefore should technically be recognized in Italy with the app that scans the green pass.

If you have an EU Digital Covid Certificate with a QR code and you want to check if it is currently valid in Italy, download the app VerificaC19 (Google PlayApp Store), which is the one used in Italy to scan the super green pass QR codes. Scan your QR code selecting “rafforzata” from the menu, then “scansiona il QR code.”

For travelers from all other countries, please note that the information on the Italian government's green pass website currently contradicts information on the Italian foreign ministry website regarding green pass validity, where instead it says (bottom of grey "news" box):

"All other foreign citizens vaccinated abroad with the above-mentioned vaccines are entitled to access all venues and services for which a Green Pass is mandatorily required in Italy (see box below)."

Therefore, for any countries not specifically addressed, contact either your country's embassy in Italy, or the Italian embassy in your home country.
