Adding RailAid at checkout and seat selection

Hi, can you tell me if I should be adding RailAid at checkout to my ItaliaRail bookings? It's free with the pass. Also, both my travel partner and I have ItaliaPass passes, when I book our train tickets, will we be seated together if we don't choose to select our seats?
