Hi Michelle - thanks for asking your question!
Here is one way to go by train... take the regional train from Civitavecchia to Rome Termini then transfer to the hi-speed train from Rome to Florence.
The train station in Civitavecchia is about a 10 min. walk from the port.
A few things to consider...
- Depending on how much luggage you have it may make more sense to take car service from the Port in Civitavecchia to Rome Termini. The regional train takes about the same amount of time as the car to get to Rome (1hr 20 min). Train tickets are very inexpensive ($6 each - $24) but the hassle factor with the luggage may make a car service more interesting. I estimate a car directly from the Cruise port to Termini station would be between $150-$200.
- Are you intending to ultimately end up in Florence or Tuscany? This may influence where you take the train from Rome to - if you are planning to stay in Tuscany as opposed to Florence where in Tuscany are you thinking?
- Are you planning to rent a car once in Tuscany?
If you can provide a bit more info we can help give additional more detailed options :-)
