Calling all Venice lovers! It's Monday and that means time to open Venice Week with our question challenge:
First-time visitors: What do you most want to see or do in Venice?
Return travelers: What is the most unforgettable experience you had in Venice?
I'll start!
Many years ago I visited Venice for the first time, for my birthday. It was early spring, and just as spectacular as I had imagined it—actually even more. As amazing as the pictures of Venice are, they just can't do the city justice. It's magical.
My favorite experience in Venice was eating dinner at a restaurant with a small outdoor terrace that had just one table, literally right over a tiny canal. I can't remember the name after all these years, but I do remember we managed to snag that table because the owner of our small hotel was friends with the restaurant owner. With the gondolas gently gliding past us as we ate, it was truly unforgettable.
